Guest seats are limited. If every guest table is busy, the game asks you to sign in instead; an account is free and takes about a minute to create. Guest tables have no chat, and when the match ends you are offered an account rather than rewards.

Every mode is free to play: bot practice, online matchmaking with real players, private rooms with friends, ranked Spades and the one-against-one Spades Duel. There is no subscription, no premium table and nothing for sale that improves your cards. The deal is as indifferent to your wallet as it is to your feelings.

Signed-in matches use virtual coins. New accounts start with a coin balance, a daily reward adds more, and finished matches can pay coins back. Coins cannot be bought or cashed out, so there is no gambling and no real money at any table.

Play as a guest when you want a quick game against bots on this device. Make a free account when you want people at the table: online matchmaking, a room for your friends, ranked play with levels and LP, coin rewards, and a profile that follows you from your phone to your computer.

The rules are identical either way. An account changes who you play with and what gets saved, not the game itself.

Every free game is the real thing: 52 cards, four players in two partnerships, 13 tricks per hand and spades always trump. Each player bids the tricks they expect to win, the partners’ bids add up to one contract, and making it scores 10 points per bid trick; missing it loses the same.

Extra tricks are bags, worth 1 point each until 10 of them cost the team 100. A successful nil scores 100 and a blind nil 200, and a failed one loses the same amount. Partnership games run to 500 points and Spades Duel games to 300.

Tricklora runs in any current browser on a phone, tablet or computer with an internet connection. There is no app to install, although you can add the site to your home screen and open it like one.

Count your sure tricks before you bid: high spades, side-suit aces and a short suit you can trump early. Then bid what the hand is worth, not less. Underbidding feels safe, but it collects bags, and bags quietly lose games.

Watch your partner’s bid too. If they bid high, save your spades for the tricks they cannot win; if they bid nil, you become their bodyguard and take the dangerous tricks for them.
